Empty Houses in Blog Town!

The problem of an increasing number of empty houses with weed-ridden, unkempt lawns has been brought to the attention of the Blog Town City Council. See the YouTube video submitted by one of Blog Town's citizens who claims she was trying to raise awareness of the under-reported phenomena.

The council wants to hear from you. What can be done about these neighborhood eyesores that potentially decrease the property values of the surrounding neighborhood?

Empty Houses

The rash of unsold houses--many of them empty--has been brought to the attention of the Town Council. To view a video podcast unfortunately filmed in our own town, click on this link: http://langarts.podbean.com/

We'll be addressing this distressing situation at our next meeting and encourage all who are able to attend to be there.

Lawn Tax

The Blog Town Council is considering a Lawn Tax to be added to local property taxes. This was prompted by a combination of issues tied to the continued practice of expending resources on what many council members have declared a useless decorative item from a pervious era--the lawn: the current water shortage (see ); toxic lawn chemicals (see ); and the noise and air polution caused by weekend mowing (see )

Sure we like our lawns, but what if were growing something we could use instead--like vegetables!

H1N1 Flu: anticipating school closings

Because of anticipated school closings in the fall of 2009 due to the H1N1 (Swine--sorry hog farmers) Flu, Blog Town is investigating an online option for the high school. Read this: and let us know if this option will work for our town. Items to consider include how many families have computers in the home that have a high speed connection students can use to do their school work? This option might influence our decision on proceeding with muniwifi and what and whom we would charge for this service.

Considering Municipal WiFi

A visitor to the Blog Town City Council has suggested that Municipal WiFi would be a positive step for our town to take. Read the link and share your thoughts. Who will be interested: individuals? businesses? What can the town reasonably charge users? Can the town compete with providers already in existence?

Welcome to the Blog Town Council, a meeting of English 1021.

The purpose of this blog is to capture those fast moving, often pictoral thoughts we all have about the issues of our day and get them down in writing. Once down, you might consider whether or not this is really what you think. Consider also the reactions your jottings elicit from the other Blog Town council members. In fact, who are those other citizens? Some of them look familiar--please post a picture. But are these people who they say they are or are they masking their real selves with a fictional persona? In other words, is your Blog Town neighbor who he/she claims to be?
